@glut_func, yes, I've read about those articles.

In any automation, there is always the "human factor". Since nasa IT ka, alam mo ang ibig kong sabihin. No matter how secure your desktop is, lagyan mo ng AV or End-point security, real-time scanning, anti-malware... and everything... humans are still the weakest link. True enough, the machine is just a machine.

But that should not stop us from working to improve the system. For average human, life is a learning journey and every time the sun rises, it's an opportunity for us to learn new things. Same with every election - each time is an opportunity to improve the system. With digital cameras, camera phones, internet access, social media, and real-tiime communication tools at our disposal, the voters of today are in better position to minimize, if not totally eradicate, pool frauds. Only if we give up then that's the time tanggalin na lang natin ang salitang demokrasya, at sige... mag-martial law na lang ulit tayo.

We can whine all day and all night and complain about this and that. But if we will not work on a solution, I seriously doubt we will resolve any problem.

I just hope those people who took time and effort to compile videos, wrote blogs... will do something CONCRETE to try to solve the problem. I hope that their passion to "expose the truth" would be matched with passion to campaign and influence people to vote for the right candidate. Some would say NOTA (none of the above), but have they took closer look at Ang Kapatiran? These folks seems credible, but strangely, none of the righteous voters supported them. Can't help but ask, talaga bang wala nang mapipili sa mga kumakandidato sa atin?

i got your point johnnie, for me kasi first part of solving the problem is, of course, identifying the problem itself and from there we can assess - and truly understand how we can do our next step.

No matter how many elections we do, hanggat hindi nababago ng mga pilipino ang kanilang mentalidad na pumili ng tama at nararapat na kandidato wala din - paano masyado nang bulag ang masa sa mga pakulo ng mga kandidatong hilaw - puro pangako na napapako. They voted for a trapo and they got what they wished for - thanks to the crappy media that we got.

The "problem" I am expressing about us as filipinos is our mindset. Looking back, it has enslaved us for a long time. You said it yourself, humans are still the weakest link - its never about the system - no matter how much you debug and rewrite a system over and over again it has always been about the people behind the system and the known solution to it lies on how we think about things effectively changes how they work. That is the only concrete and logical cure to our dysfunctional culture and state of mind.

In other words, the sole motivation here is to help our kababayans to think critically for themselves. I will say it again, walang saysay mag eleksyon kung hindi marunong kumilatis ang botante - nasayang ang pagod ng marangal na kandidato sa pagkampanya at nasayang din ang boto ng tao, in the end, we're back to square one.

Hypothetically speaking, this "changing of mindset" thing may not take effect immediately but atleast we gotta start from somewhere.

Very true. Kaya nga ang sabi ko, OFWs sana ang pag-asa sa pagbabago because we have seen other side of the fence. Nakita na natin ang magandang sistema sa ibang bansa, naranasan na nating sumunod sa batas ng ibang bansa, naturuan natin ng disiplina ang sarili natin, and from afar... we can discern who, among the candidates would be best to run the country (in 2010 election, many OFWs would have chosen BF and Gordon due to their track record, but they choose not to vote at all, how sad). Changing the mindset can start from us, OFWs, dahil tayo ang mas malawak ang perspective. Pero kung magsasawalang-kibo nga ang majority sa atin, at hihintayin ang change of mindset ng mga nasa Pilipinas, then this change will not happen in our lifetime.

found this, not sure though kung eto nga yung official final tally (or kung included na even yung mga OAVs)

noon pero i will cite na rin for the sake of reference and discussion:

aware din ako sa credentials ni gibo at BF nung election, i actually even believed one of them would make it and im sure alot has voted for both of them as shown because of their known track record pero laking gulat ko nung nakita ko si erap on the 2nd spot....i mean, cmon, the guy was found guilty of plunder "beyond reasonable doubt" and people still voted for him? obviously, gibo & BF will never stand a chance against the popular choices. Dyan mo makikita ang kamalian sa takbo ng pagiisip ng karamihan sa masa and to add insult to injury si pnoy ang nanalo - we all know how his cv goes, right? ..... the masses are really oblivious on identifying which one is a good pick as opposed to which isnt. Like i mentioned, nabulag sa popularity ang masa. And they are eating it up like its their only moral sustenance in life.

Kung marunong lang talaga kumilatis ang mga masa sigurado hindi tatangkilikin si pnoy at si erap at all - i would even bet they wont appear in that list. Problem is, ang mentalidad ng mga pinoy still hasnt left 1986. Most of our kababayans still lavish themselves with the notion that the aquinos are the savior.

Not trying to dwell too much on the negative here but lets say isama man ang boto ng mga OAV sa total tally of atleast 40M+ out of 90M+ of able-bodied adult voters sa pinas, Im sure the powers that be wont let it happen and will thwart the odds to their favor. It has been done again and again. With the way things are going right now, there is no place for "just and fair" anymore - logical reasoning is ignored and due process is being skimmed right under our very noses.

That's just how it has been and how we have gotten used to. The change of mindset doesnt just begin with us OFWs but instead within each and every one of us. Once that has been done, like i mentioned earlier, how we think about things changes how they work. Given its a slow process but one step at a time would mean a lot and from us here, we could start by willingly putting it into practice and injecting it to our daily lifestyle and oh and stop watching too much TFC. Shocked

Both well said guys.

Ang sakin you can't say na sa OFW puede mag umpisa because not all ofws think the same, marami ding utak talangka, di porket nakatungtong tayo sa ibayong dagat mas alam natin ang tama. And i don't agree that humans cannot make an automated system free from glitches, maybe not 100% perfect but results can be relied upon.

There's one trait that set pinoys apart from the rest, we are so sympathetic. What are we thinking? What are the FILIPINO people thinking?

How do we change everything? San natin sisimulan?

So after the "colors" and the motives, we can see clearly the problem now.

Next question is, what is the solution and where do we start?

I know some would say "umpisahan natin sa ating sarili", ok...fine...then what's next?

I have been voting for the more "able" ones but my number (myself & my wife) is not enough to outnumber the masa. Unless there is collective effort, wala tayong magagawa. Democracy is about numbers.... at sa Pilipinas, ang bilang ng mahihirap ang nagdidikta kung sino ang mananalo sa halalan. The people who pay the taxes and keeps the economy afloat has no voice on socio-political matters.

Again, after all the rhetorics and exposes and discussions and all... what is the solution? If anybody can come up with something that is concrete, measurable, doable and achievable, count me in... susuporta ako.

we could start with these...

http://isyan.hubpages.com/hub/Charter-Change

http://definitelyfilipino.com/blog/2011/04/01/why-the-philippines-needs-charter-change/

ALL of these are doable, problem is, ayaw lang gawin ng iba dahil they are blinded from the truth and oblivious on the matter at hand. This issue has always been subjective and to arrive at this point, again, starts within all of us. It is up to the perspective of the viewer. If there is no willingness to change - it wont happen. Simple as that.

Ok sa akin ang chacha. It's about time... we have been trying to move as one country but I am more inclined to believe that "divide and conquer" is more effective. Simply lang, we are geographically separated, each region have different character and values. So I say let them live their lives (but under one common flag and common goals). Let them observe their own regional holidays, let them have their own regional laws (but aligned to a common constitution), let each region excel in its own, let them have their own schools and learning institutions (curicculum is aligned with common standards), and allow then to collect regional/federal taxes to support local operation, provide local services and fund infrastructure projects (which are aligned with national infrastructure development blueprint).

Just to cite an analogy, if I am operating an school and I have 500 students, what would be the best strategy to teach them? Shall I put them in one big room, sit them by age group and teach them 1st grader from 8-9am, the 2nd grader from 9-10am, the 3rd grader from 10-11am...and so on? Or wouldn't it be more effective to create 6 rooms, put the students belonging to the same age group to 1 room, then assigned a teacher in each room to teach the appropriate lessons, and I, as the owner, can focus more on improving the curriculum, and perhaps spend time to personally look at those poor performing students?

The analogy of managing a school and governing a country might be poles apart in terms of scale and complexity, but I know you get the picture.

Now, the next questions:
(1) how do we begin the push for charter change?
(2) how do we ensure that those changing the constitution really have the passion to serve the country and not the vested interests of few?

I'm doing that, sir. Sa ngayon, my actions are limited to the legal framework of our constitution... yung succession lang through election. And I have been actively encouraging (if not influencing) people to participate in OAV. And in each election, I am giving my immediately family the list of candidates na dapat nilang iboto though medyo mahirap ipaliwanag sa kanila kung bakit pinili ko ang mga yun.

My family and I went back to Philippines last December and my kids started asking me questions about street children na nadaanan namin sa mga intersection sa Manila. So ayun, I explained to them the (bad) political situation in the country.

If anybody has more ideas on "what are the solutions"... keep them coming. Share them to pinoysg.

Better kung i-rally na lang yan to push for it, taking it to the streets kumbaga - its the only practical way. It has worked every single time considering we have more than 1 episode of the edsa rally series over the years and flips always loved the heroic theatrics! Eating it up every single time like their showbiz talk shows and telebobos. You can sense if the people who were vying for the cha-cha to push through has some genuine passion for the country kasi by looking at their credentials sila yung nasa posisyon at nakakaalam sa pangkalahatang estado ng bansa at nakakaalam sa kung anong makakabuti (long term) para sa lahat - since they are in the position to lead and do something, gusto rin naman nila mapabuti ang lagay ng bansa natin kahit papano.

As for the petition goes, every initiating proposal made for charter change has been questioned, challenged and then junked. In the end, trapos still gets installed again and again like an annoying adware that never goes away.

Once the madla becomes consciously aware on whats going on, makakapag analyze na sila ng logical solution sa problema.

better yet, start putting it into practice by yourself first - disiplina lang sa sarili para makita ng mga tao sa paligid mo at nang mahawa din sila.
